LONG LINES
STORY OF YWAM ÅLESUND
Our base started in 1994 as a hub for a traveling team, doing extensive outreach in and around the Sunnmøre region of Norway. The base was founded by Kalle and Liv Skårbrevik.
Four years later, in 1998, we pioneered the first Creative DTS—and ever since then, we have hosted 15-40 students each year. In the fall of 2023, we celebrated the 25-year-long journey of the Creative DTS! The base moved to the city center of Ålesund in 2018. Our current building enables YWAM Ålesund to grow in many new exciting ways! We have been able to increase our schools` sizes, host local events, and partner with other Christian organizations. In 2019, we celebrated 25 years of YWAM Ålesund.
Our base is led by Jan Oskar and Randi Alnes. In the fall of 2019, they became base leaders at YWAM Ålesund. The two are passionately involved with YWAM Medical Ships in Papua New Guinea, where they have been a captain and a nurse since 2015. Together, they carry the vision of YWAM Medical Ships Norway and YWAM Ålesund partnering together to build the nation of Papua New Guinea while engaging a new wave of missionaries from Norway. Jan and Randi also brought the vision of Outdoor DTS, which now runs as a full track.
"We want the base to be a blessing for our city. YWAM Ålesund is a creative center and we dream of seeing Christian artists flourish to inspire people to follow Jesus. We also dream of assisting Papua New Guinea reach its future goals for the quality of life in their nation."
